Tar Sands Healing Walk

The Healing Walk started in 2010 in Fort McMurray Alberta, which is located in the Northern Boreal Forest. Fort McMurray is in Treaty 8 where for the past 50 years there has been oil extraction. Initially the extraction was oil, it is now crude which is a much heavier form of oil and takes more energy and water to extract, making it one if the dirtiest oils on the planet. Progress update shows little change, two years after road map to responsible oilsands development released

With substantial progress on only two of 19 recommendations, faster implementation of oilsands environmental solutions needed to secure social license for future development

Edmonton — Two years after the Pembina Institute outlined 19 steps toward responsible oilsands development in a report entitled Solving the Puzzle, and one year after Alison Redford won a majority government, very little progress has been made on the recommended policy improvements, according to an update released by the Institute today. You are invited to comment on progress to reduce the impacts of transboundary air pollution under the Canada-United States Air Quality Agreement.   The 2012 Progress Report indicates that our two countries have met their commitments to reduce the pre-cursers of acid rain and ground-level ozone, and provides a summary of cooperative efforts under the Agreement over the past 20 years.
