SESA Solar Seminar— Alberta Passive Solar Greenhouses: Lesson Learned

Sep 25 2014 - 1:00am

Free presentation and discussion. No registration required. Refreshments at 6:30pm

Speaker: Rob Avis, Verge Permaculture

Rob and Michelle Avis have been living with and researching a solar greenhouse in Alberta for the past five years. Designed to meet the northern climate challenges of efficiently capturing heat and light while limiting heat loss and providing adequate ventilation, humidity, pest control and snow shedding; their experiment has provided some successes and a lot of wisdom. Rob will also discuss the ideal cold climate greenhouse including such design improvements as thermal curtains, an air lock entry, a water wicking system and a subterranean heat storage system.
