NCC Habitat Restoration: Weeds and Waterfowl

What: Volunteers will spend a day exploring the Nature Conservancy of Canada's (NCC's) Lowden Springs property and ridding this low-lying moraine habitat of invasive plant species including Canada Thistle. In addition, volunteers will be treated to a tour of the lake property and will learn about Rumsey Moraine, the largest uninterrupted Aspen Parkland habitat left in the world.

What: Volunteers will join the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) for its third annual Thistle pull on one of NCC’s beautiful properties at the Clifford E. Lee Nature Sanctuary near Edmonton. Volunteers will be taken on a guided hike through its marshlands, open meadows, aspen parkland and pine forest, and then contribute to site improvement by pulling invasive weed species including Canada Thistle in order to protect native plant diversity. Volunteers will round up some invasive Spotted Knapweed in order to protect the native plant diversity of this ecologically significant area.
