After years of pioneering and experimentation Net Zero Energy housing is ready for prime time. National Resources Canada’s R2000 Net Zero Energy Pilot is intended to demonstrate road ready solutions that will work anywhere in Canada, on any site, with readily available products and materials. Detailed tracking of these houses will also be used to support the development of a new Net Zero Energy certification being developed in conjunction with Canada’s new improved Energuide Rating System. Of the 13 projects across Canada, Habitat Studio’s McKernan project in Edmonton will be most northerly and the first completed.
Veteran net zero energy builder, Peter Amerongen, will discuss the solutions that will be part of our carbon neutral future: An optimized blend of integrated design, near Passive House levels of conservation, heat pumps and renewable energy generation. Besides discussing the rational and implications of these measures, he will also present examples of their being applied to larger buildings. Read More
