Albertans encouraged to nominate fish and wildlife conservationists

Order of the Bighorn nominations close November 1

Edmonton... Albertans have until November 1 to nominate outstanding fish and wildlife conservationists for the esteemed Order of the Bighorn.

Order of the Bighorn nominations and ceremonies take place every two years. The 2008 ceremony will be held March 7 in Edmonton. Deserving individuals or organizations selected as 2008 Members of the Order will join the ranks of conservationists whose efforts have enriched the lives of Albertans.

Past recipients include Kim Allan, creator of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton; the late Andy Russell, wildlife author and outdoorsman; and the conservation organization Ducks Unlimited Canada.

The Alberta government established the Order of the Bighorn in 1982 to acknowledge contributions to fish and wildlife conservation that enrich the lives of Albertans. The bighorn sheep is Alberta’s official mammal and is a fitting symbol for the order.
