Below is the agenda and Liana&#39;s bio.</p><p>Curitiba, Brazil is an international model for sustainable development. The city&#39;s achievements are the result of strategic, integrated urban planning. This strategy informs all aspects of urban planning, including social, economic and environmental programs. Curitiba&#39;s planners focus on putting people first. This includes improving the environment cutting pollution and waste, and making the quality of life better.</p><p>Liana Vallicelli teacher of Architectural Design, Urban Planner and External Affairs Advisor for Curitiba, Brazil will be presenting on Saturday, October 13 at the EcoLiving Fair. This presentation will give participants ideas and inspiration on how to make Calgary more sustainable. Also on the Program is Jazz and Blues sensation <a href="http://www.heatherblush.com/">Heather Blush and Triple S</a> and <a href="http://www.davidswann.ca">Dr. David Swann MLA</a> who will inspire us to be more environmentally connected.</p><h3>An Evening with EcoLiving</h3><p>Saturday, October 13 <br />from 6:30-9:30pm<br />SAIT – Macdonald Hall<br />Cost $10<br />(Cash Bar and snacks available)</p><h4>Liana Vallicelli, Architect and Urban Planner</h4><p>Liana is the External Affairs Advisor at the <a href="http://www.ippuc.org.br/verde_Index_ingles.htm">Institute for Research and Urban Planning of Curitiba</a>, Brazil. The Institute’s mission is to “coordinate the city&#39;s urban planning and monitoring process, conducting sustainable development through compatible actions between the city and its metropolitan area.”</p><p>Liana’s duties include:</p><ul><li>coordinate capacity building courses in urban management sustainability for national and foreign urban planners,</li><li>promote and organize seminars, conferences related to urban planning and sustainability;</li><li>make presentation of Curitiba ’s urban planning experience and sustainable development seminars/workshops in Brazil and abroad;</li><li>exchange experiences with international and national institutions.</li></ul><p>Among her achievements, Liana coordinated several international meetings that took place in Curitiba, including World Habitat Day (1995), the Interamerican Bank conference of Non-governmental organizations and environment (1996), and the UN Sustainable Urbanization in Latin America and the Caribbean conference (2002).</p><p>Liana has also shared her expertise in urban planning for other cities, including Santiago de los Caballeros (Dominican Republic, 1997/1999), San José (Costa Rica, 2000), and São Paulo (Brasil,2003);</p><p>Liana studied at the University College London (England, 1982) and the Federal University of Parana (Brazil, 1977).</p> </div> </div></div>
