Government of Alberta's Proposed Lobbyist Act
If you have not done so already, I hope you will find the time to read up on the "Lobbyist Act" that is being proposed by the Stelmach government. It would see many measures and corresponding duties brought into place that could radically hamper the way that nonprofits are able to carry out their missions. This indeed gives cause for concern. On our website, you will find a collection of info on this issue, such as links to the Act and a gov't FAQ page, an in-depth evaluation prepared by the Legal Resource Centre at the U of A, and an "In Brief" section written by the CCVO (Calgary).

Important: The Muttart Foundation has prepared a letter for submission to the gov't committee reviewing the Lobbyist Act. The Board of the ECVO endorses the submission, as does the Board of CCVO. - Circulate it widely to your friends and colleagues - critical mass is key here.
- Endorse the submission. If your organization is prepared to be listed as endorsing the submission, email Bob Wyatt at the Muttart Foundation ([email protected]) no later than Monday, 20 Aug '07. The endorsing organizations will receive a copy of the final submission for their records.
- Don't wait. This is a big one!
