Mercury upRISING Presents Think About It: A Talk By Dr. David Keith + screening of Manufactured LandscapesWednesday, March 215:30 pmRoom A142 (Administration Building), The University of CalgaryFor a campus map, go to: join the Mercury upRISING (a group of Environmental Design grad students promoting action against climate change) for an event filled with engaging discussion and provocative film.The event will begin with Dr. David Keith's talk on Climate Change and Carbon Engineering. Dr. Keith is the current Director of Energy & Environmental Systems: ISEEE, and the Canada Research Chair in Energy and the Environment, amongst many other positions (see attached poster)."Climate Change and Carbon Engineering" will address how the climate problem arises from human manipulation of the carbon cycle. Dr. Keith will discuss engineered ways to reduce humans’ impact on the carbon cycle or to directly reduce climate change by deliberate planetary scale engineering. A short question and answer session will follow.The evening will then round off with a screening of "Manufactured Landscapes" – a stunning documentary by award-winning director Jennifer Baichwal that follows acclaimed photographer Edward Burtynsky to China, as he captures the effects of the country’s massive industrial evolution. This remarkable film leads us to meditate on human endeavour and its impact on the planet.A free event.
