The draft provisional guidelines revise the 1999 Canadian Soil Quality Guidelines for lead for the protection of human health only. The soil quality guidelines for lead for the protection of environmental health have not been revised.

The soil quality guidelines for human health for lead are based on a conservative receptor (a toddler) for agricultural, residential and commercial land uses, and an adult receptor (women of childbearing age, using the toddler toxicological reference value to protect the fetus) for industrial land uses.
