We are a network of individuals and groups working together on shared concerns. AEN members include individuals and representatives from member groups that connect, collaborate and share information.

The AEN is a link between the environmental community and government, industry, the media and all Albertans.

Join the network

Albertans and environmental groups are welcome to join the AEN as members – there are memberships for both individuals and groups. Members contribute to preserving and protecting Alberta’s environment by sharing information and collaborating on shared issues. Learn more about becoming a member of the AEN.

The AEN supports an inclusive and diverse environmental community for all Albertans.

EUB Proposes to Weaken Enforcement Policy

Martha Kostuch

Media Release

April 4, 2005

The Energy Utilities Board (EUB) is proposing to revise their Enforcement Policy. On March 21st, the EUB issued Bulletin 2005-09 inviting comments to be submitted by April 8th on their Draft Compliance Assurance – Enforcement Directive.

The Bulletin talks about prevention of noncompliance, continuous performance improvement and communication and education but according to Martha Kostuch, an environmentalist who is active in energy issues, there is nothing in the draft objective that enhances prevention, continuous improvement or communication and education.

The Draft directive on Compliance Assurance – Enforcement which accompanied the bulletin sets out the proposed new enforcement policy. The Bulletin and Draft Directive are available at www.eub.gov.ab.ca/BBS/new/Projects. Read More

"Some of the justification which we have seen for continuing to hunt a threatened species has been laughable." Read More
