About the AEN

The Alberta Environmental Network (AEN) connects Albertans and environmental groups that are dedicated to preserving and protecting Alberta’s environment. As a non-profit and non-partisan organization, the AEN supports collaboration of the environmental community throughout the province.

Connecting Alberta’s environmental groups

We are a network of individuals and groups working together on shared concerns. AEN members include individuals and representatives from member groups that connect, collaborate and share information.

The AEN is a link between the environmental community and government, industry, the media and all Albertans.

Join the network

Albertans and environmental groups are welcome to join the AEN as members – there are memberships for both individuals and groups. Members contribute to preserving and protecting Alberta’s environment by sharing information and collaborating on shared issues. Learn more about becoming a member of the AEN.

The AEN supports an inclusive and diverse environmental community for all Albertans.

Public Lecture: Prairie Crossing Conservation Community

Legacy Lands Conservation and the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta are pleased to present a free public lecture:

Prairie Crossing (www.prairiecrossing.com) is an
internationally recognized conservation community located outside of Chicago,
Illinois. Over 60 percent of this 677-acre site is protected open land that
is actively used by people and wildlife. This includes more than 165 acres of
restored prairies, 20 acres of restored wetlands, 16 acres of historic
hedgerows, a working certified organic farm, 359 single family homes, 36
condominiums, 10 miles of trails, and a lake for swimming and boating.

Prairie Crossing has been nationally recognized in the press as one of the
nation's leading conservation communities and for its innovations in planning
and community design. These reviews by third party experts include dozens of
articles and editorials in periodicals such as The New York Times, The Wall
Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, Crain's Chicago Business, The Daily
Herald, Landscape Architecture, and The National Geographic. The Prairie
Crossing houses and native landscaping have been featured in Country Living,
Midwest Living, and Better Homes and Garden's Perennials. Prairie Crossing
has also received repeated coverage on National Public Radio and on numerous
television stations including WTTW Public Television and CNN. Read More

Cypress Wind Farm Not Green Use of Environmentally Significant Public Land

Alberta Wilderness
Association

A wind farm is being proposed next to Cypress Hills Provincial Park on
environmentally sensitive native prairie. The Alberta Wilderness Association
(AWA) is generally supportive of renewable energy developments as
alternatives to fossil fuel production; however, they must be subject to
rigorous environmental assessment and public involvement and they must not
damage environmentally sensitive lands, especially those in public ownership.
Locating wind farms on internationally significant grasslands in the Cypress
Hills does not represent sustainable green energy production. Read More
