Request To Revoke Park Status For Caribou Mountains Disgraceful

Alberta Wilderness Association

The Advisory Committee for the Caribou Mountains Wildland Management Plan wants the park status for this protected area revoked. AWA is asking Community Development minister, Hon. Denis Ducharme, to rebuke the Committee's request to disestablish the Wildland Park. AWA is also asking the minister to allow representation, on the committee, from provincial environmental groups.

"We are puzzled by their motivations," says Cliff Wallis, AWA Board of Directors. "This demand is coming from a committee responsible for recommending management for this protected area. The committee should work on park protection, not lobby to have park status revoked. Those members who want park status revoked should resign immediately." Read More

Krushell says Scrap Trolleys - More diesel fumes and noise for Edmonton

Edmonton Trolley Coalition

Tuesday March 14, 2006
For Immediate Release

Krushell’s Threat to Trolley Buses means more diesel exhaust and noise for Downtown communities

Less than two years after Council decided to keep trolleys on the road until 2008 pending the outcome of tests of new trolley buses and hybrid vehicles, Ward 2 Councillor Kim Krushell has announced she wants the city’s quiet and non-polluting electric bus fleet off the road this year.

“This needs to be seen as an attack on the quality of life in 46 core communities that are served by trolleys,” says Brian Tucker, Chair of the Edmonton Trolley Coalition. “The absence of fumes and silent operation of trolley buses are a real benefit to the areas where they operate. Many of these communities are areas that the city is trying to densify and revitalize. Adding the noise and pollution of more diesel buses is a step backwards. Other cities have found that the benefits of electric transit play a key role in revitalization.” Read More

Admitting you have a problem is always the first step in breaking an addiction. Luckily, Mr. Bush has taken that first step by admitting that America is addicted to oil. Unfortunately, Bush, Harper, Blair and scores of other politicians and corporate CEOs have stopped right there and are exhibiting the classic signs of an addict: denial, aggression, avoidance, and shifting the blame.
