World Water Issues Panel Discussion

This event will feature a panel discussion addressing international water issues. Panelists will explore topics around water rights with a focus on the global south. This will include looking at village water supplies in Kenya, water justice, initiatives to provide water filtration, and Nicaragua as a case study for understanding global water issues.


  • Fiona Cavanagh is the Program Manager of Education and Public Engagement with the Change for Children Association. Her work addresses issues of water justice with a focus on Nicaragua.
  • Brent Swallow is Department Chair and Environment and Development Economist with UofA's Faculty of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences. He has 21 years of field work experience in Kenya.
  • Jessica Hogan of Kenya Ceramics, an exciting new international health pilot project aimed at introducing innovative ceramic water filters and high efficiency wood burning stoves to rural areas of Kenya.

This event is part of World Water Week in Edmonton

There will be events throughout the week, along with tabling on campus, including taste testing bottled water vs tap water, information on groups involved in World Water Week and ways to get involved in water issues.
