Tar Sands House Party Orientation Training

August 7, 2008 - 1:00am

Be a Part of the Creation of the Tar Sands House Parties!

Sierra Club of Canada — Prairie Chapter

Sierra Club Prairie has a great new way for you to spread the word about the Tar Sands and to your friends and family! Our "Tar Sands House Party" kits are all you need to host a social event with an environmental justice theme! Invite your friends over for a potluck or a wine and dessert evening, watch a video about the issue of your choice, look at images of Alberta's tar sands region or nuclear power, and read letters written by those directly affected by these developments. Then, engage in a discussion about what you can do to make your voice heard! Kits include "Common Q&A" on each topic as well as "Suggested Discussion Questions" to get you going, and much more!

By becoming a House Party Host, you are taking action to affect true change in Alberta! So much power lies in the act of talking about the issues that so many people hear about every day.

On Wednesday, August 6th, Sierra Club Prairie will be hosting a Tar Sands House Party Host Orientation Training for Edmontonians interested in hosting their own House Parties, as well as be a part of the final editing process of the kits themselves!

We will be taking a look at the House Party kits, discussing our first impressions, and discussing ideas we have to make them stronger — and make them a truly effective grassroots tool that will inspire and empower those who attend the parties!

Come and have a preview look at the kits, and view the Sierra Club
Prairie documentary (25min) made especially for the Tar Sands House
Party Kit! For more information contact Jess at [email protected].
