ReThink Red Deer Annual General Reunion

April 21, 2011 - 12:30am to 3:30am

ReThink Red Deer's first annual general reunion! Like a traditional AGM, we'll handle the basic governance requirements of being a legal society but our focus will be on a special presentation and celebration of our accomplishments over the last year.

The business side of this meeting will be voting in new board members and sharing details on current & completed projects - particularly the Pathways to Sustainability Conference. The pleasure side will feature a presentation on "Successes in 21st Century Citizenship" including:

Debbie Hubbard
Greater Edmonton Alliance

Growing up in a rural Saskatchewan community as part of a family with a mixed farming operation certainly set the foundation for Debbie’s lifelong interest in healthy living and community life. She has worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist for the past thirty years in a variety of settings and countries. Debbie and her husband Dean have traveled extensively to various corners of the world. She has seen first hand some of the impact her lifestyle has had on our global neighbours and the environment. This has sparked both an interest and a passion in the issues of sustainability and simplicity in her own life. Most recently she has been involved with learning about and working to resolve both local and global food security issues; working as co-chair of the Local Food Team of the Greater Edmonton Alliance, travelling to India and Bangladesh (Feb, 2010) for a Food Study tour with the Canadian Food Grains Bank, and serving as a Director on the Live Local Alberta board.

Fiona Cavanagh
Centre for Public Involvement (U of A & City of Edmonton)

Fiona has demonstrated leadership skills as a Program Manager at Change for Children Association, a non-profit, board governed international development organization where she has worked for the past six years. She has also served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation where she developed effective relationships and networks with Alberta and Federal Government. In addition, she has served as Education Consultant for Canada World Youth.

Fiona graduated from the University of Alberta with a Masters Degree in Education Policy Studies in 2003 and has been using her extensive education to promote public engagement and education programs. She is a published researcher and the recipient of several recognition awards.

Fiona is also a dedicated and active member of the Edmonton community and holds memberships in such organizations as the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation, the Child Study Center with the University of Alberta, Women in Communication, and the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations.
