First established as a Natural Area in 1971, the Plateau Mountain Ecological Reserve is the southernmost tip of Kananaskis Country, and represents a geologically and biologically distinct mountain ecosystem within Alberta. The summit of Plateau Mountain provides spectacular views of the montane meadows filled with wildflowers, in addition to Eastern slopes to the west and the prairie to the east.
For more than 18 years, AWA has been the Volunteer Steward for Plateau Mountain helping to ensure the best possible management and conservation of this incredible landscape. Join us as a Volunteer for the day, as we document information for our stewardship report, and collect any debris or garbage we find along the way. This hike will be guided by Vivian Pharis, who will be an excellent resource for identifying the many wonderful plants and flowers you will see, and Chris Saunders, our main volunteer steward for this area, who will share his experiences with Plateau Mountain.
This is a free event, however, registration is required.
