Love Your Headwaters Festival

August 10, 2016 - 10:00pm to August 11, 2016 - 2:00am

Celebrate Edmonton's Headwaters! The Bighorn Backcountry provides 86% of Edmonton's water - why isn't it protected?

The Bighorn Backcountry, near Nordegg, Alberta, provides Edmonton with 86% of its drinking water. However, this area is still designated as a series of Public Land Use Zones (PLUZs), meaning it is threatened by coal development, oil and gas activity, and forestry!

Celebrate Edmonton's headwaters and join CPAWS Northern Alberta at our Love Your Headwaters festivals this summer!

  • Saturday, July 23rd 10am to 2pm at MEC Edmonton (10238 102 Avenue, Edmonton)
  • Wednesday, August 10th 4pm to 8pm at Sir Winston Churchill Square

There will be prizes, music, and food trucks!

The Threat

The Bighorn is currently threatened by oil and gas activity, potential coal developments, and forestry activities. It is also hammered by impacts from recreational activities such as random camping and off-highway vehicle usage!

What CPAWS is Doing

CPAWS wants YOU to tell the government of Alberta that you want Edmonton's headwaters protected!

Write to Premier Notley and Minister of Environment and Parks Shannon Phillips today to let them know that we need a Wildland Provincial Park for the Bighorn Backcountry.

AND, join us this summer at our LOVE YOUR HEADWATERS events!
