Lake Management Project Team

The purpose of this initiative is to provide recommendations for improved lake management in Alberta to support achievement of Water for Life goals.
Objectives:
- Document and assess the current state of lake management planning and governance (e.g., roles and responsibilities) in Alberta.
- Identify gaps, redundancies and opportunities for improvements in lake management.
- Develop recommendations toward effective lake management in Alberta, including roles and responsibilities.
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 18 months
- 15-20 full-day meetings, with some hours required between meetings to review and comment on meeting materials and draft reports
Selection Criteria:
- Representative of a sector with a direct interest or role in addressing this issue (deal maker, deal breaker or implementer)
- Does not have to be an AWC director or alternate
- Needs to have the characteristics described below, as per the AWC process guidelines
Expectations:
- Effectively represent a particular stakeholder organization or sector;
- Come prepared for meetings (e.g., reading pre-meeting material, completing assignments and being able to negotiate on behalf of their sector);
- Make constructive contributions that advance the team’s goals and objectives, and help others to do the same;
- Report regularly to their sector;
- Brief their sector’s director regularly, including prior to the team’s report and recommendations being presented to the board;
- As appropriate, participate in briefing directors and alternates in their broad category;
- Liaise with their sector’s participants on the board and other Council teams to maximize synergy, ensure coordination, and prevent duplication by keeping each other informed;
- Follow the rules and principles of consensus decision-making.
