Alberta Caribou Action & Range Planning Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group: Little Smoky & A La Peche Caribou Ranges

Position:
Two (2) ENGO Delegates and one (1) alternate
Initiative:
Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group for the Little Smoky & A La Peche Caribou Ranges
Application Deadline:
9 Aug 2013

The Government of Alberta is developing caribou action plan(s) and range plans for Alberta’s fifteen caribou populations. The plans are being developed to meet the requirements of the 2012 Federal Recovery Strategy for the Woodland Caribou, Boreal Population. A phased approach will be taken to develop the plans: (1) Little Smoky/A La Peche, (2) Cold Lake, (3) northeast caribou ranges, and (4) northwest and remaining mountain caribou ranges. Development of the Little Smoky/A La Peche and Cold Lake plans will begin this year, with the aim of being completed in early 2014.

To facilitate this work, the Government of Alberta is establishing Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Groups (Advisory Groups) – one for each of the caribou range planning areas. The advisory groups for Little Smoky/A La Peche and Cold Lake are being formed now. Advisory groups for the northeast and the northwest Alberta caribou ranges will be established later.

Members of each Advisory Group will collaborate to develop, review and provide strategic advice on elements of range and action planning, including:

  • a template for range plans;
  • baseline information;
  • inventory and assessment of management tools and approaches;
  • planning and key elements of stakeholder workshops; and
  • management options in range plans.

Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group Draft Terms of Reference for the Little Smoky/A La Peche and Cold Lake are attached describing the guiding principles and expectations for the group’s work. The Terms of Reference will be reviewed at the first Advisory Group meeting. The approved Alberta Caribou Action and Range Plan (ACARP) Project Charter is also attached.

To support this collaborative work, we are seeking two representatives and an alternate from the Alberta Environmental Network for each of the following:

  1. Little Smoky/A La Peche Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group
  2. Cold Lake Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group

We look forward to receiving your nominations for the Little Smoky/A La Peche Multi-Stakeholder Advisory group and the Cold Lake Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group.
