Notice of Proceeding

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has initiated a proceeding, pursuant to the Responsible Energy Development Act, to investigate and make recommendations about odours and emissions associated with heavy oil operations in the Peace River area. 

All notices and documents related to the proceeding, including a map of the Peace River area, and documents proposing the purpose and objectives of the proceeding (scope document) and how it should be conducted (process document), are available on the AER website www.aer.ca/applications-and-notices/hearings/proceeding-1769924  and at the Grande Prairie Field Centre, 9815 – 15 Street, Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V 7R3. 

Organizational Meeting

The AER will hold an organizational meeting at the Sawridge Inn, 9510 – 100 Street, Peace River, Alberta, on October 7, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. to hear comments from interested parties (area residents, licensees, government departments and agencies, municipalities, and subject matter experts) about the content of the proposed scope and process documents. Peace River area residents may, at this time, provide preliminary comments about the nature and scope of their concerns about heavy oil operations in the Peace River area. 

The AER will issue the final scope and process documents after the organizational meeting to guide the future conduct of the proceeding. This will include the opportunity to receive further comments from Peace River area residents, as well as input from licensees, government departments and agencies, municipalities, and subject matter experts.

To assist the AER in conducting the organizational meeting, parties are encouraged to submit their comments (or a summary thereof) in writing by October 4, 2013. However, written comments are not required to participate in the meeting.
