For immediate release

(Edmonton) We want it all: the opportunities and excitement of city living, and a quiet serene place to escape to at night. Although a house in the new suburbs may seem like the perfect solution, there are hidden costs. The Sierra Club of Canada – Prairie Chapter in partnership with Rainbow Bridge Communications is releasing a new educational video that will inspire Edmontonians to take interest and get involved in the way our city develops. In seven fast-paced minutes, "Is Edmonton Growing Smart" illustrates the hidden costs of suburban sprawl and, using examples from Edmonton, the key Smart Growth concepts that will ensure Edmonton remains a clean, healthy, vibrant place to live - long into the future.

“With this video we hope to inspire Edmontonians to become engaged in the future of our city. Being an active citizen is becoming increasingly more important as our city grows and the people of Edmonton should not feel as though they are left out of the decision making process.” says Sonja Mihelcic, Chapter Director, Sierra Club of Canada – Prairie Chapter.

“The most important question is, ‘Who is in the driver’s seat?’ Smart growth happens when educated and dedicated citizens are willing to become engaged in planning Edmonton’s future. “says Barb Allard, Producer, Rainbow Bridge Communications.

To see the video go to www.sierraclub.ca/prairie or come to the showing of End of Suburbia on January 12, 2005. (Time: 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Cost: $5) Metro Cinema, The Citadel 9828-101A Avenue.

"Is Edmonton Growing Smart?" (7 min. 2004) is narrated by Clinton Carew and produced by Rainbow Bridge Communications Company (RBCC) for the Sierra Club of Canada-Prairie Chapter.
