Conservation groups take Environment Minister to court over endangered Sage-grouse

EDMONTON — Conservation groups are taking Environment Minister Peter Kent to Federal Court over his continued failure to protect Canada’s endangered Greater Sage-grouse and fulfill his duties under the Species at Risk Act (SARA).

In November, Ecojustice filed a petition demanding Kent use a SARA provision to recommend emergency protection for sage-grouse and the habitat the species needs to survive in Canada. The protections requested included an end to further human disturbance, particularly oil and gas development, in crucial sage-grouse habitat. Approval of Jasper Development Ignores Public Outcry

Over the objections of almost 200,000 citizens, the federal government has approved the proposed “Brewster Glacier Discovery Walk” in Jasper National Park. Conservation organizations fear that the beauty and integrity of Jasper National Park are being surrendered to commercial interests, opening the door for more for-profit businesses to capitalize on the splendour of Canada’s most loved and protected landscapes. "Water in Focus" Photo Contest & Photo Exhibition

The North Saskatchewan Riverkeeper is launching our first "Water in Focus" Photo Contest and Event Exhibition.  The photo contest and exhibition are focused on four "water-themed" photo categories that capture everyone's relationship with water.  Every amateur photographer in Canada either has a photo or can take a photo that fits one of our categories.

The photo contest entry and payment is all online, secure, and confidential.  We want as many people as possible to be involved with celebrating our waters through photography and the dialogue one photo can create about our water. RCA Conference 2012 Announcement & Call for Speakers

The Recycling Council of Alberta is pleased to announce its 2012 Waste Reduction Conference "Wide World of Waste", to be held October 3-5, 2012, at The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

The conference will feature a wide variety of topics and sessions, and potential speakers are welcome to submit ideas for presentations on  a range of  topics, including international success stories, economic impacts of recycling initiatives, zero waste, education/promotion, organics diversion, and other innovative programs and technologies. Will Alison Redford's Clearcuts Crush Bear Cubs in their Dens?

Conservationists today called upon Alberta premier Alison Redford to halt plans for winter logging would disturb, displace or even kill bears denning in the Castle Special Management Area.
