Workshop Description

The cornerstone of sustainability is behavior change. If we are to move toward a sustainable future we must encourage individuals and businesses to engage in a multitude of actions (e.g., waste reduction, water and energy efficiency, pollution prevention, etc.). To date, most programs to encourage such activities have relied upon disseminating information. Research demonstrates, however, that simply providing information has little or no effect on what people or businesses do. But if not ads, brochures or booklets, then what? Join Gareth Thomson, seasoned environmental educator, to find out how to help your children explore nature, using a complementary ‘tool kit.’ Please come prepared to spend time outdoors!

Water - our most precious resource! Join water molecules Walter and Wendy as they sing, dance and learn about the water cycle, wetlands, watershed, filtration, pollution and water treatment. This one hour indoor musical performed by Evergreen Theatre will be followed by an exciting outdoor pond study led by Area staff. Please arrive 15 minutes early - late entries will not be permitted. Get the scoop on scat! Discover the stories a pile of poop tells you about animals and their biology. You’ll never say ick again as we explore the fascinating in’s and out’s of animal droppings! Use your detective nose on a walk to examine who ‘dung’ it. Indoor/outdoor program, please dress for the weather.
