Food Futures Lectures series: Going Local: Putting Ideas Into Practice

Mar 4 2011 - 2:00am

A Lecture Presented by Jessie Radies & Nettie Wiebe

The cry "Go Local!" is increasingly heard today, with proponents pointing to numerous  benefits to a thriving local food system, including access to nutritious foods, support for local farmers, closer connections between producers and consumers, lower carbon footprint, and reduced dependency on volatile global agricultural markets. But great ideas are not always easily put into practice, and creating a local food system faces multiple challenges, as well as rewards. Hear from two leaders in the Canadian Local Foods Movement about their own experiences working to create sustainable local production and retailing industries here in our own backyard, and join us in discussions about how to deepen our relationships to the food we eat, and the farmers who produce it.
