Hiroshima Day

Bring the kids and join The Wilderness Committee, Nuclear Free Alberta, the Sierra Club and 1000 origami Cranes at Edmonton City Hall to commemorate the dropping of an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Two books will be read; Sadako by Eleanor Coerr to explain the significance of the paper cranes and Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who (which mentions the bombing of Hiroshima) to tell kids that their voice needs to be heard.

The event will also urge City Council to make Edmonton a Nuclear Free Zone. Read More

Reports this week have confirmed that Indigenous led protests against new "Free Trade" agreements in Peru have been met with brutal violence by the Peruvian government. The Peruvian police and military murdered up to 100 protesters on June 5/6 2009, and are continuing to terrorize people under a declared 'State of Emergency' while blaming the protesters for the violence. Commuter Challenge 2009

Commuter Challenge is a national program that encourages Canadians to walk, cycle, take transit, carpool (ride share) or tele-work instead of driving alone to work. The Challenge supports workplaces as they encourage their employees to leave their cars at home for their personal health, the health of their communities and the health of the environment. Individual Canadians can participate too.

The program is based on a friendly competition between workplaces and communities across Canada to see which has the highest percentage participation rates during the week. Read More
