U of A Sustainability Awareness Week

Emerald Day is a community environmental showcase event, with displays, talks and networking.  This community reception event will feature a special presentation by Simon Jackson, one of Time Magazine's 60 Heroes for the Planet.  Simon will be speaking at about 6:15pm and will then be available for questions and connecting.

Emerald Day is presented by Syncrude Canada, with support from Newalta and organized by the Alberta Emerald Foundation.  The Alberta Emerald Foundation is a provincial charity committed to recognize, celebrate and inspire environmental excellence, best known for hosting the annual Emerald Awards.

Emerald Day is free to attend, and the community reception event includes complimentary hors d'oeuvres and bar.

The 15th annual Eco-Solar Home Tour is coming for TWO DAYS on the weekend of May 31 and June 1, 2014. The tour is absolutely free! You don't need to pre-register but you will need to make your own way to the homes. With 13 homes on the tour it is difficult (but not impossible!) to see them all. There will be 6 different homes open Saturday and 7 open on Sunday. The homes will be open Saturday and Sunday afternoon from noon until 4 pm.

Climb and Run for Wilderness

On April 26 bring the whole family to join the Alberta Wilderness Association at the Climb and Run for Wilderness. Participants have the chance to climb the 802 stairs of the Calgary Tower, see the murals of the “tallest gallery in the west” and raise money to protect Wild Alberta. Each year almost 2,000 people, from babies in backpacks to 94 years old take part and support Alberta’s wilderness legacy and the conservation and education work that goes into protecting it.
