The Alberta Environmental Network (AEN) connects Albertans and environmental groups that are dedicated to preserving and protecting Alberta’s environment. As a non-profit and non-partisan organization, the AEN supports collaboration of the environmental community throughout the province.

We are a network of individuals and groups working together on shared concerns. AEN members include individuals and representatives from member groups that connect, collaborate and share information.

The AEN is a link between the environmental community and government, industry, the media and all Albertans.

Albertans and environmental groups are welcome to join the AEN as members – there are memberships for both individuals and groups. Members contribute to preserving and protecting Alberta’s environment by sharing information and collaborating on shared issues. Learn more about becoming a member of the AEN.

Wilderness No Place for Motorized Recreation

Community Development Minister, Gene Zwozdesky, is prohibiting motorized recreation in Willmore Wilderness Park; however, he is still supporting off-highway vehicle use in other public wilderness areas in the province. Alberta Wilderness Association (AWA) applauds the strong stand taken by Hon. Gene Zwozdesky to protect Willmore Wilderness Park from motorized recreation (OHV) traffic.

"Mr. Zwozdesky is wise to nip in the bud, new proposals to open or develop the Willmore" says Vivian Pharis, AWA Director. "As the largest protected and one of the oldest wilderness areas in Alberta, Willmore Wilderness Park is the shining beacon of the province's land conservation program." Read More

Conservationists call upon Province to scrap Controversial Program to Sell Off Public Lands

Conservationists are calling upon Minister of Sustainable Resource Development, Mike Cardinal to cancel the Farm Holdings Consolidation Program (FHCP).

On July 23rd, SRD Minister Mike Cardinal's office sent a letter to lease holders announcing the FHCP. The stated aim of the program is to "further diversify and strengthen the agricultural industry." Read More

Which air pollutants concern you the most?

Alberta's Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act provides for the development of ambient air quality objectives. Public consultation is part of the process.

In 2000, Albertans were asked to nominate air pollutants for consideration for new or updated ambient air quality objectives. Alberta Environment is completing its first set of ambient air quality objectives identified through this process and is ready to consider more air pollutants for round two.

Truth & Reconciliation at AEN

It is our understanding at the Alberta Environmental Network that Reconciliation starts with the land, and there is no Reconciliation until we have faced the Truth. While Truth is held collectively, we recognize everyone is on their own learning journey, at their own pace. Our work at AEN focuses on the lands outlined by the Province of Alberta, lands with which we are learning to be in kinship relationship, in the nêhiyaw (Cree) spirit of treaty-making. The lands we work for are described in Treaties 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10. The traditional keepers of this land are Anishinabe, Nêhiyawak (Cree), Dené, Dane-zaa, Nakota, Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda), Tsuut’ina, and Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy); this land is also the homeland of the Métis. We are committed to building meaningful reciprocal relationships, to be of service particularly to those directly experiencing the effects of oppression, genocide, and exploitation.
