Then consider applying to the Alberta Ecotrust Community Grant Program!

Maximum request: $7,500
Requirements: We are a matching funder, and so will only fund 75% of a total project budget. More information is available on our website!

A quick note: announced at the beginning of 2013, the Alberta Ecotrust Grant Program has been both renewed and restored, with an emphasis on supporting and strengthening Alberta ENGOS. Our program priorities have expanded to include land use and energy initiatives, addressing the increasing desire for ecosystem-level management and urban sustainability. Focused criteria reflect the Alberta Ecotrust decision making process, and applicants can craft their proposals with an improved understanding of the strategic thinking of our Grant Review Committee. This includes looking at the potential for success and impact, strength of strategy, timing and/or urgency, and the capacity of the applicant to achieve the expected results.

If you have any questions or would like to chat about your project, please do not hesitate to call or email us. We offer 30 free minutes of coaching for all applicants, and we’ll even review a draft proposal if you email it to grants [at] albertaecotrust [dot] com by April 10!

Don't miss your chance to be seen, heard and win!

The Alberta Environmental Network's Directory Update and Alberta Ecotrust's Nonprofit Capacity Survey are both underway. Over the month of May, we invite all environmental nonprofits in Alberta to invest 15 minutes of your time to register for the directory and complete the capacity survey. By participating, you will ensure your organization is well connected and its voice is heard in the development of future services for nonprofits. It will also make your organization eligible to win some great prizes!

AEN Environmental Directory

Supported by Alberta Ecotrust, The Alberta Environmental Network's (AEN) revised Environmental Directory is an online searchable database that will present a clear picture of environmental groups and their activity in Alberta. Environmental groups will be able to use the directory to easily connect with each other and stay connected, while others across Alberta will be able to find out what great work is being done in their communities.

In addition to creating the easily accessible and searchable directory, AEN will use the information to enhance its networking role by engaging environmental groups working on issues ranging from formal policy discussions to multi-stakeholder consultations. The information will also help populate AEN's caucuses and committees.

Alberta Ecotrust Non-Profit Capacity Survey

At the same time as the directory update, Alberta Ecotrust is undertaking a capacity survey of environmental nonprofits. We are reaching out to all Alberta nonprofits, urban and rural, working on water issues, land use and conservation, as well as air and energy projects to complete the survey today.

The information collected through the survey will help create an understanding of groups by size, location and issue. It will also allow Alberta Ecotrust to reach out and distribute information about funding and resource opportunities, to improve our own programs and to also create better bridges between Alberta environmental groups, other funders and nonprofit service providers.

Participate - and become eligible to win great prizes

Your participation in the directory and capacity research projects is crucial to AEN and Alberta Ecotrust's efforts to support environmental groups throughout Alberta. As an incentive to participate, the first 50 organizations to register for the directory and complete the survey will receive a $15 Chapters gift card. Further, all organizations that complete both will be entered into a draw for a $3,000 Capacity Package that includes three days of custom consulting on strategic or operational planning, communications or fund development planning, as well as a cash mini-grant to invest in your organization's capacity.

Alberta Ecotrust is extending the Early Bird deadline for River Rally 2011 so you can take advantage of the great pricing. Early bird pricing - an affordable $75 for a 3-day conference that includes a raft trip - ends July 22. After this time, the price jumps to $100 (and eventually $135). We are also excited to make a few new announcements about River Rally 2011, so read on!

$1500 Watershed Prize available to River Rally participants! We are excited to announce that Rally attendees representing nonprofit organizations will be entered into a live draw to be held at the river on World River's Day (Sunday September 25). The prize is a $1500 mini-grant for their organization to use to advance its mission. We want to celebrate and appreciate the great work underway to steward Alberta's water resources!
Road Trips to River Rally! We will be offering free transportation via 'River Buses' (Passenger Vans) from up to four different regions of the province to encourage as much participation from rural communities as possible and allow folks from adjacent communities to get to know each other on the way to and from Edmonton - expanding networks and sharing ideas. What is River Rally?

Alberta Ecotrust is hosting River Rally from September 23-25 in Edmonton. River Rally is a multi-day conference celebrating water and watershed stewardship, and you are invited to attend!

River Rally will feature keynote speaker Kivi Leroux Miller, a communications guru known for helping small nonprofits with limited resources raise friends and funds to achieve their missions. Alberta Ecotrust is planning sessions on watershed management, planning and implementation, fundraising, communications, and engaging community and politicians. There will also be an opportunity to take an interpretive raft trip along the North Saskatchewan River through the heart of Edmonton.

Early Bird registration is open until July 22, and the first 25 registrants will receive a copy of Kivi's book "The Nonprofit Marketing Guide" ($50 value) for free!
