POSTPONED Banks Rally in Calgary: Finance the Future, Not Fossil Fuels

Rainforest Action Network

Would you like to kick off an exciting national organizing campaign with Rainforest Action Network? We’re planning a rally in downtown Calgary on November 21st, 2008 during the lunch hour. I have been coordinating with the Amazing people at Arusha and we have allocated space for an art build and preparation for the Friday rally.

The long-term goal of this project is to challenge Canada’s top banks to invest in the future by suspending financing for tar sands and other dirty energy projects. Our objective for the rally will be to put the banks on notice and build a local team to keep the pressure on. The Downtown event will preceed a series of events taking place on Dec. 7 across Canada.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with street theater, marshalls and onsite attendees to make this event a success. I am also hoping to find suit jackets, pig noses, and may still need a bullhorn. If you have a laptop, bring it on down. I am hoping to have access to the internet so we can take instant online action and send out letters to our banks telling them how we feel about their investments.
